Cleaning
Maximize chair lifespans with easy routine maintenance and cleaning.

Fabric Cleaning & Maintenance
For maximum fabric life, we recommend regular professional cleaning. Because of the quality of Sitmatic fabric, most accidental spills are easily cleaned if treated immediately. Blot wet spills with a clean, dry towel, changing the towel frequently.
For stubborn stains, try to determine the nature of the spill and choose an appropriate solvent, using mild soap and water for water-based stains and a solvent-type cleaner for oil-based stains. Additionally, test all solvent-based cleaners beforehand on an unexposed portion of the fabric.
Treat stains quickly
- The longer a stain is allowed to set, the more difficult it becomes to remove.
- Pretest any cleaning method or agent on a small, hidden, inconspicuous area.
- *Several less-concentrated applications of a cleaning solution are less damaging than one highly-concentrated application.
Don’t let fluids penetrate the surface
To avoid permanent staining and discoloration, odor absorption, fabric degradation, and mold or mildew growth, remove fluids immediately by blotting with a clean, colorfast, absorbent cloth. If necessary, tip the chair so the liquids don't soak in.
Remove solid or semi-solid substances
- Start by removing as much of the stain as possible using a flat object, like a business card.
- After removal, vacuum thoroughly using the proper attachments before cleaning with an agent.
Water-based stains
Apply warm, soapy water to the stain using a soft brush or sponge.
Oil-based stains
- Oil is resistant to water-based cleaners, so you’ll need to use a solvent or dry clean solution to prevent stains from spreading and embedding into the fabric permanently.
- Too much solvent can damage the chair’s fabric and you should never apply cleaning agents directly on the upholstery. Instead, apply the cleaning agent to a cloth or sponge before blotting the stains for controlled removal.
For all stains
- Use light, quick strokes and start from the outside of the stain, working towards the center.
- Do not rub or scrub, as this may damage the fabric.
- Do not use heat as it will set the stain.
- Do not oversaturate with liquid, as this may leave a ring.
- Soak up any remaining cleaning solution.
- Use a clean cloth and cool water to remove any residue.
- Allow fabric to dry thoroughly.
- Vacuum well, using appropriate upholstery attachments.
Cleaning & Disinfecting Instructions for Sitmatic Chairs
Sitmatic recommends regular vacuuming or light brushing to prevent dust and soil buildup.
Before disinfecting chairs, use a vacuum with a HEPA filter for fabrics and dispose of the filter after vacuuming.
How to clean and disinfect your office chair
Cleaning & Disinfecting
Cleaning refers to removing germs, dirt, and impurities from chair surfaces. This does not kill germs but lowers their numbers and the risk of spreading infection. After cleaning chairs, disinfecting then kills germs and viruses, further reducing the risk of spreading infection. Consult the table below for applicable cleaning and disinfection products depending on the chair model and fabric.
Lastly, rinse chairs with clean water after vacuuming and disinfecting to eliminate residue. This will prolong the life of various components (thread, seams, foam, etc.) that can be impacted by cleaner and disinfectant residue.
Protective Equipment
Always wear disposable gloves when cleaning and disinfecting surfaces, discarding them after each cleaning. If reusable gloves are used, they should be dedicated to cleaning and disinfecting surfaces for COVID-19 and should not be used for other purposes. Be sure to wash your hands immediately after gloves are removed.
Warning: this information is not a guarantee. Please use all cleaning and disinfecting agents safely and as instructed. The use of other cleaning agents, disinfectants, conditioners, or protectants can degrade fabric performance and may void Sitmatic warranty.
- 5 tablespoons (1/3 cup) of bleach per gallon of water, or
- 4 teaspoons of bleach per quart (32 oz.) of water
**Always rinse with fresh water and allow the chair to thoroughly dry before use, as moisture will cause more dirt to cling to the chair’s surface.**
DO NOT USE ANY CLEANING PRODUCTS CONTAINING ALCOHOL.
Sanitizing & Caring for Bleach-Cleanable Leather
Cleaning Instructions
- Use the CDC/EPA recommended solution per the leather product specifications. Gently apply (wipe) using a soft, clean cloth (do not aggressively scrub). Do not saturate.
- Allow the solution to remain on the surface according to the recommended cleaning agent label dwell time.
- Gently wipe off the cleaning mixture residue using a clean, damp cloth to prevent fading and long-term damage to the leather. Removing cleaning agent residue is important as it may continue to degrade surfaces, shorten their life, and/or affect the appearance of the surface material.
Bleach Cleanability
The CDC/EPA recommends ratios (1:10 or 1:48) of bleach* to water for sanitizing and disinfecting viruses and bacteria. For the approved dilution ratio and cleaning agent instructions for dwell time, reference the CDC/EPA and product specifications.
